Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), which was based in Washington DC. After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist as well as presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. She served on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She covered many notable stories such as arms control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
